19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after March of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour title, took control to force a third set.

He rescued four early opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
